This plant is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: May
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Perhaps the best crab apple for crab apple jelly. Masses of cup-shaped, white flowers from red buds in late spring, followed by large, red-flushed, orange-yellow fruit, and dark green leaves. This pollution-tolerant crab apple is an ideal ornamental tree for a small, urban garden. Also it is one of the best disease-resistant crab apples. It's conical in shape and will flower (and fruit) best when grown in full sun.

  • Garden care: When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Remove dead, diseased and crossing branches while the tree is dormant.
