Keep well watered during the growing season, ensuring the compost remains consistently moist but never waterlogged, and allow any excess water to drain freely. Reduce watering slightly in winter, letting the top of the compost dry out between waterings.
These plants thrive in a warm, humid environment, so avoid placing them near radiators or cold draughts, and mist the foliage regularly to maintain humidity. Feed every two weeks with a balanced houseplant fertiliser from spring to late summer to encourage strong growth and flowering.
Bright, indirect light is ideal — avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves — and maintain minimum temperatures of 15°C (59°F) through winter.
