Potentilla fruticosa Bella Bianca ('Hachbianca') (PBR)
shrubby cinquefoil
This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.
- Position: full sun
- Soil: poor to moderately fertile, well-drained soil
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: May to August
- Hardiness: fully hardy
Freely producing an abundance of yellow-eyed, white flowers throughout the summer, this pretty shrub will often flourish in those hard to fill spots with blazing sun and poor soil. Dot them through the front of a mixed border or pot them up for the patio, and they will offer a long season of colour with the minimum amount of fuss. - Garden care: Trim lightly after flowering, cutting the older stems to the base and removing weak, spindly growth. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring.
