Skimmia japonica 'Perosa' is an undemanding evergreen shrub will offer year round colour and interest. It's great in pots or borders, and it will cope with most settings (apart from blazing sun), provided it is kept reasonably well fed and watered. The foliage is a beautiful blend of greens and grey, with just a hint of cream (and occasionally burgundy), while the bright red buds, which open to creamy white flowers in the spring, offer a bright splash of colour throughout the winter.

How to care for Skimmia japonica Perosa (PBR):

When planting, enrich the soil with plenty of well-rotted organic matter to improve moisture retention, soil fertility and drainage. Skimmia prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil, so avoid chalky conditions unless supplemented with ericaceous compost. Water well after planting and keep the soil consistently moist, especially in dry spells.

Minimal pruning is required, but you can lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact shape. Mulching in spring with compost or leaf mould will help retain moisture and keep the roots cool.

Protect from harsh winter winds to prevent leaf scorch, especially in colder regions.
