Sorbaria sorbifolia 'Sem' (PBR)

sorbaria

Product Image
The feathery foliage of this low-growing, suckering shrub emerges each spring in a bright pinkish-bronze flush, but quickly turns fresh lime - and then a rich, dark green. Forming an attractive leafy mound, Sorbaria sorbifolia 'Sem' is topped from midsummer with large cone-shaped clusters of small white flowers. The interest continues well into autumn, when the foliage changes colour once again - this time taking on reddish tones before it is shed.

How to care for Sorbaria sorbifolia Sem (PBR):

Plant in a sunny or partially shaded spot with moist, well-drained soil. Apply a generous layer of mulch around the base in spring or autumn to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Once established, remove about a quarter of the oldest stems to the base after flowering to maintain a tidy, vigorous clump and encourage new shoots.

Rooted suckers can be lifted and transplanted in autumn or winter to propagate or control spread. Water during dry periods until the plant is established, but it does develop some drought-tolerance over time and becomes low-maintenance once settled.
