These dazzling orange-red wallflowers will put on a stunning display in early spring. Their sumptuous colouring looks dazzling when teamed with rich plums and purples, or can add sizzle to yellow, orange and red schemes. Often grown as a biennial plant, wallflowers perform best in full sun where their bright, fragrant flowers will shine. They look particularly effective in a large patio container or at the front of a sunny fertile, well-drained border.

Please note: These wallflowers have recently been dug up from the ground and are supplied as ’bare-root’ (i.e. not pot-grown) plants. They will look a bit wilted and sad when they first arrive, however field grown plants are very tough. They should be planted out as soon as possible, and they’ll usually pick up once they’ve settled in.

  • Garden care:
Provide cloche protection where frosts are very severe or prolonged. Wallflowers like good drainage, so take care not to over-water. When in flower, regular deadheading will prolong the display even further.

  • Sowing instructions:
Using good quality compost, sow the seeds 5mm deep from March to July. Starting early sowings off in a cold frame or greenhouse and keep moist (but not waterlogged) until they germinate. Thin out as soon as they are large enough to handle, potting them into individual pots. Harden off slowly before planting outside in summer. Late sowings can be done direct.
