Turn up the warmth in your planting with glowing, sunset-toned flowers that keep coming for months. This compact, bushy perennial forms a tidy clump to around 40cm (16in) high, with fresh green, lance-shaped leaves that provide a clean backdrop for the show above.
From late spring through summer and into early autumn, funnel-shaped blooms open in shades of pale yellow washed with rich orange and flashes of deeper red towards the centre. The layered colouring gives each flower real depth, creating a lively, fiery display that works beautifully in patio containers or at the front of a sunny border.
Alstroemeria Inticancha Sunset is hardy, reliable and easy to grow, thriving in fertile, well-drained soil in sun or light shade. Its naturally compact habit makes it ideal for smaller gardens, while the long flowering season ensures steady colour with modest, but consistent, care.
How to care for Alstroemeria Inticancha Sunset ('Tessunse') (Inticancha Sun Series):
Plant in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in a sunny or lightly shaded position, ideally sheltered from strong winds. If planting into large containers, use a general-purpose potting compost. Water regularly during the growing season, especially in dry spells, but avoid waterlogging.
Newly planted Alstroemerias should be given a very generous 20cm (8in) deep mulch of chipped bark in their first winter to help the plants become established. In subsequent autumns, provide a dry mulch of bracken or bark chippings to help protect the crowns.
After flowering, cut back the faded flower-stems, but make sure you always wear gloves when working with Peruvian lilies, as contact with the foliage may cause skin irritation.
