Bring a burst of sunset colour to your borders with this compact, free-flowering perennial. Upright stems rise from a neat, clump-forming base of mid-green to bronzed, lance-shaped foliage, creating a tidy framework that works well at the front of a sunny border.

Throughout summer and into early autumn, clusters of funnel-shaped blooms open in warm golden-yellow tones, each petal flushed with peach and orange and marked with dark speckles and splashes towards the throat. The contrast between the glowing flowers and the darker foliage gives the whole plant an exotic feel without being difficult to grow.

Alstroemeria ‘Summer Breeze’ thrives in well-drained soil in a bright spot and rewards you with a steady stream of long-lasting flowers that are excellent for cutting, holding beautifully in a vase. Compact, colourful and reliable, it’s an easy way to add strong seasonal interest and a touch of the exotic to your outdoor space.

How to care for Alstroemeria Summer Breeze ('Teshunte') (PBR) (Summer Paradise Series):

Plant in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in a sunny or lightly shaded position, ideally sheltered from strong winds. If planting into large containers, use a general-purpose potting compost. Water regularly during the growing season, especially in dry spells, but avoid waterlogging.

Newly planted Alstroemerias should be given a very generous 20cm (8in) deep mulch of chipped bark in their first winter to help the plants become established. In subsequent autumns, provide a dry mulch of bracken or bark chippings to help protect the crowns.

After flowering, cut back the faded flower-stems, but make sure you always wear gloves when working with Peruvian lilies, as contact with the foliage may cause skin irritation.
