Asarum europaeum

wild ginger

Product Image
A robust and reliable groundcovering plant, which once established will remain evergreen throughout the year. Commonly known as wild ginger, it has sweetly pungent roots and has been valued and cultivated as a medicinal herb since the 13th century. It is also invaluable for providing attractive foliage in shadier spaces.

How to care for Asarum europaeum:

This low-growing, evergreen groundcover prefers moist, well-drained soil in full to partial shade. It's ideal for woodland gardens or underplanting in shady spots.

Once established, it needs minimal maintenance—just a light mulch of leaf mould or compost every year or two to keep the soil fertile and cool. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely, especially in prolonged dry spells.

Any damaged or old leaves can be removed in spring to keep it looking tidy.
