Nothing builds the anticipation for spring quite like early daffodils, and with these scented “paperwhite” narcissi, you can bring the approaching season inside! Suitable for forcing, these popular three varieties are now available to purchase in this curated and cheery collection.
How to care for Fragrant indoor daffodil collection:
Wearing gloves plant bulbs 10-15cm deep and 10cm apart in autumn. After flowering feed with a balanced fertiliser, deadhead the flowers, but do not be tempted to cut back or tidy the foliage after flowering as this will interfere with the bulbs’ ability to store energy for the following year's flowers.
To force your daffodils: Plant them close together in bowls filled with bulb fibre. Make sure the growing tips are protruding just above the top of the compost. Put them in a cold, dark place, which will encourage the flowering stems and roots to develop before the leaves. Keep the bulb fibre just moist and leave them in the dark for 8 weeks - or until the new shoots are about 4-5cm tall. Once they have reached this height, bring them into a dark room away from bright sunlight. The leaves will gradually turn green and you can slowly increase the light levels as they do. The flowers will soon follow.
What's included:
In each collection you will receive the following:
- 10 × Narcissus papyraceus 'Ziva' (paperwhite): This traditional paperwhite is said to have the strongest scent of all. It can be planted out in sheltered gardens, but it is more often planted up into bulb bowls and 'forced' to grow early as an indoor plant. The scent is unforgettable.Grows to 40cm.
- 10 × Narcissus 'Erlicheer' (Early Cheer): Producing clusters of soft creamy-white double flowers, with a deeper buttery yellow centre, (up to 20 per stem), their intoxicating scent, said to be similar to a gardenia. This is best appreciated when potted up and kept indoors, but after flowering they can then be planted out in a sheltered spot, ideally near an entrance or pathway to maximise the impact of their perfume in subsequent years. Grows to 40cm.
- 5 × Narcissus 'Grand Soleil d'Or': Pot up the bulbs of this beautiful, small-flowered daffodil and each stem will produce a generous number of richly scented bicoloured blooms. Enjoy them inside your home, then when they've finished flowering, plant them outside in a sheltered spot, and enjoy their cut flowers for years to come. Grows to 45cm.
