Lavender-pink, pea-like flowers form along the bare stems of this wonderful American redbud in spring, just before the foliage emerges.
Cercis canadensis 'Hearts of Gold' has juvenile foliage flushed with pinkish-orange, maturing to yellow and then green. A compact and colourful deciduous tree, which will not get too large, it will be happiest in a warm, south-facing spot.
How to care for Cercis canadensis Hearts of Gold (PBR):
When planting, add some soil conditioner (well-rotted compost) to the planting hole and some mycorrhizal fungi to aid root establishment.
Ensure the top of the plant's compost is flush with the level of the surrounding soil and the collar of the tree is above ground level.
Support taller specimens either with a bamboo cane and or stake during establishment. Water generously around the base of the plant.
