Clematis 'Pangbourne Pink'

clematis (group 3) (syn. Clematis integrifolia Pangbourne)

Product Image
Sweetly scented, deep cerise-pink, bell-shaped summer flowers with creamy centres, followed by silvery seed-heads. This fragrant, non-climbing variety of clematis is perfect for growing in larger pots or in large pots or a mixed border in full sun or partial shade.

The wispy seed-heads of Clematis 'Pangbourne Pink' are an important decorative feature, extending the season of interest through to autumn.

This clematis is suitable for containers when planted in a large (minimum 50 x 50cm or 20 x 20in), well-insulated and non-metallic pot, helping keep roots cool and reducing the risk of heat stress and wilt. Position pots where they will have some shade from the midday sun.

How to care for Clematis Pangbourne Pink:

Clematis are happiest when their roots are kept cool and moist, so try to plant them where that the base of the plants will be lightly shaded by other, lower-growing species. Otherwise, use a clematis root protector, or top-dress the rootball (avoiding the immediate crown), with a generous layer of shingle or pebbles.

This clematis is herbaceous and will die back during the winter - remove spent stems and foliage to the ground in February, and apply a thick layer of mulch to suppress weeds, feed the soil, and keep the root area moist and cool for the growing season ahead.

Use twiggy prunings, ring stakes or bamboo canes to provide support.
