Cornus alba Nightfall ('Verpaalen3') (PBR)

dogwood

Product Image
This striking dogwood features dark green leaves in spring that deepen to a rich purple as the season progresses, offering a spectacular autumn display. The velvety grey undersides of the leaves provide a unique contrast against the darker foliage, and in winter, its red branches stand out, adding visual interest even during the colder months.

Hardy and low-maintenance, this upright shrub is ideal for use as a hedge, screen, or background planting.

Regular pruning encourages new growth and enhances the vivid colour contrast, making Cornus alba ‘Nightfall’ an excellent choice for year-round interest in the garden.

How to care for Cornus alba Nightfall ('Verpaalen3') (PBR):

Incorporate some well-rotted garden compost when planting and scatter some mycorrhizal fungi on the rootball to aid establishment and water in well.

Leave the plant unpruned for the first year after planting, but once established, and for best stem colour, cut new growth back hard to within 5-7cm (2-3in) from the ground in March and apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or horse manure around the base of the plant.
