Cornus alba Nightfall ('Verpaalen3') (PBR)

dogwood

Product Image
This striking dogwood features dark green leaves in spring that deepen to a rich purple as the season progresses, offering a spectacular autumn display. The velvety grey undersides of the leaves provide a unique contrast against the darker foliage, and in winter, its red branches stand out, adding visual interest even during the colder months. Hardy and low-maintenance, this upright shrub is ideal for use as a hedge, screen, or background planting. Regular pruning encourages new growth and enhances the vivid colour contrast, making ‘Nightfall’ an excellent choice for year-round interest in the garden.

How to care for Cornus alba Nightfall ('Verpaalen3') (PBR):

This Cornus will thrive in either full sun or partial shade and can adapt to various soil types. In March, cut the stems back hard to within 5-7cm (2-3in) from the ground and apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or horse manure around the base of the plant. Regular annual pruning promotes the formation of new branches and enhances the colour contrast between the dark leaves and the red branches.
