Doodia aspera 'Rough Ruby'

prickly rasp fern

Product Image
A vibrant, clump-forming fern with glorious maroon, red fronds that mature to green later in the year. This Doodia is 'wintergreen', dying back only in the coldest of winters, where it will emerge once again in the spring given some protection. ‘Rough Ruby’ has a beautiful shape making it great for patio pots and containers, where the rough ‘saw-like’ fronds can provide early seasonal colour and texture to the garden.

How to care for Doodia aspera Rough Ruby:

Doodia thrives in partial to full shade and moist, humus-rich soil. Incorporate plenty of well-rotted leaf mould or garden compost when planting water well while establishing.

Cut back decayed fronds in late winter/early spring to allow new growth to emerge, and mulch annually to conserve moisture.
