A floating aquatic perennial with rounded leaves 3cm across, and white, tri-petalled blooms with a bright yellow basal blotch. Commonly called frogbit, this deciduous plant plays an important role in aquatic environments, providing shade and shelter for pond-dwellers whilst also preventing the formation of algae.
How to care for Hydrocharis morsus-ranae:
Keep plants looking neat and tidy by removing older leaves. Remove plantlets, which develop on the slender stolons (runners) in spring. Water must be deep enough to prevent bottom freezing to protect overwintering buds.
