Small in size but big on impact, this compact evergreen perennial delivers a vivid splash of colour just when you need it. Neat rosettes of fleshy, strap-shaped leaves form a low, tidy mound, providing a glossy green base that looks good all year round.

From late spring into early summer, and often again in early autumn, slender stems rise to around 20cm (8in) tall carrying generous clusters of star-shaped, orange-red flowers. Each bloom glows with warm sunset tones and fine striping towards the centre, creating a bright, eye-catching display that easily outshines its modest footprint.

Lewisia ‘Sunset Glow’ is ideal for rock gardens, alpine beds, gravel planting and containers where sharp drainage is essential. It thrives in a sunny spot and, once established, copes well with drier conditions, making it a practical choice for low-maintenance schemes. Protect it from excessively wet, winter ground conditions.

How to care for Lewisia Sunset Glow ('Marianni') (PBR):

Plant in freely draining, gritty or sandy soil in a sunny or partially shaded position. Water moderately during the active growing season, taking care not to overwater. Avoid waterlogging in winter, as excess moisture can cause crown or root rot.

Remove dead or faded flowers regularly to encourage further blooms and maintain a tidy appearance. Divide congested clumps every few years in early spring or after flowering to promote healthy growth and flowering. Apply a light mulch of grit or well-drained compost around the base to help retain moisture while keep the crown dry.
