The foliage of this easy to grow evergreen is dazzling golden yellow when grown in a sunny spot, and a bright yellowish green when grown in partial shade. It makes an eye-catching addition to the border, and it will also act as a great backdrop to seasonal perennials - particularly those with plum or purple-coloured flowers. Alternatively, as it takes regular pruning in its stride, you can use it to create an attractive, formal hedge.
How to care for Ligustrum ovalifolium Lemon and Lime:
Plants grown as free-standing specimens require minimal pruning - where necessary remove any misplaced or diseased branches in late-winter or early spring. Trim hedging plants twice yearly - in May and August. After pruning apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plant.
