A beautiful white-flowered cultivated form of our native Ragged Robin with star-shaped flowers from early summer to early autumn. 'White Robin' is easy to grow and responds well to being cut hard back to encourage a second flush of flowers later in the year. Good for informal flower borders or beds, it combines well with other late flowering perennials such as Achillea and Perovskia, as well as being well-suited to meadows or wild gardens with reliably damp soil.
How to care for Lychnis flos-cuculi White Robin:
For boggy soil conditions, choose our 9cm pot option and plant into deep, reliably moist ground at the edge of a bog garden or damp border. Improve the soil with compost and keep it consistently damp, particularly during dry spells, as the plant performs best in moist but not waterlogged conditions.
For shallow pond margins, select our aquatic planting basket option using a loam-based aquatic compost. After planting, top with a 2.5cm (1in) layer of pea shingle or gravel to help retain the compost. Position the basket so the crown sits at or just above the waterline, avoiding prolonged submersion.
Water marginal plants regularly until established, and maintain steady moisture levels in pond-grown plants. Remove spent flower spikes and old foliage to keep plants tidy, and divide established clumps every few years in spring to maintain vigour.
