Mathiasella bupleuroides 'Green Dream'

mathiasella

Product Image
Fabulous, nodding, jade-green, bell-like bracts appear from April to June gradually turning pink and persisting well into autumn. This interesting plant has umbelliferous flowerheads that slightly resemble those of lovage and angelica, and is great for cutting and drying. Originally from Mexico, this genus is named after the California plantswoman Mildred Mathias, who discovered it in 1954. Crocus were the first to preview this plant in our garden at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2007.

How to care for Mathiasella bupleuroides Green Dream:

Mathiasella prefers a partial shade to full sun spot with well-drained soil to avoid waterlogging, especially in winter. Keep the soil evenly moist during the growing season, but reduce watering in colder months.

In spring, apply a generous mulch to protect the roots and suppress weeds. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage more blooms, and cut back any frost-damaged stems in late winter to tidy the plant and promote healthy new growth.
