Oxalis triangularis

false shamrock

Product Image
The rich purple of this decorative low-growing perennial is made up of 3 leaflet. This forms a dense, ground-covering mound, which in summer, is topped with sprays of blush pink flowers. A colourful addition to a rock garden or raised bed, Oxalis triangularis also offers a long season of interest when potted up on the patio.

How to care for Oxalis triangularis:

Plant bulbs about 5cm (2in) deep and 7-10cm (3-4in) apart in well-drained soil or in pots with a free-draining compost. Place them in a bright, sheltered spot. Water lightly after planting and keep the soil just moist during the growing season, reducing watering during dormancy to prevent rot.

In colder regions, lift potted bulbs or move them to a sheltered spot — such as a south-facing wall, porch, or unheated greenhouse — over winter. Remove yellowing leaves and spent flowers to maintain tidiness, and apply a light feed when new growth appears in spring.
