A superb summer pea with one of the best flavours of all the maincrop varieties. The pods reach 10cm long and are tightly-packed with about 10 peas in each. A wrinkle-seeded variety, known for the sweetness of their flavour, the plants are extremely reliable and productive, and resistant to both downy mildew and fusarium wilt. The flowers are edible too and look pretty sprinkled over salads.

  • Growing Instructions: Choose a sunny, sheltered site with fertile soil and make a broad flat-bottomed drill 5cm deep and 10cm wide. Water it, then place the peas in a double row before backfilling with soil. Protect from mice and slugs. Support the tall, scrambling plants with twiggy peasticks or canes and string as they grow. Harvest from the bottom of the plant, where peas mature first, and work your way upwards to enjoy your peas at their best.

  • Sow: April-May

  • Harvest: July-September
