Phuopsis stylosa

Caucasian crosswort

Product Image
A fast growing, deciduous perennial with sprawling stems that are covered in rosettes of pungent, fresh green leaves. Throughout the summer, rounded pink flowerheads, which look like pincushions attract beneficial insects in their droves.

The flowers of Phuopsis stylosa have a spicy scent and appear for a long period, which makes them a worthwhile addition to to the front of a border. Their open, spreading habit lends itself well to covering banks, and they will also soften the edges of a path in a flash.

How to care for Phuopsis stylosa:

Plant Caucasian crosswort in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny position, avoiding soils that remain wet for long periods during the winter. Water regularly during the first growing season until established, after which plants are generally drought tolerant.

Trim back after flowering to encourage fresh, compact growth and maintain a neat habit. In autumn, or in early spring before new growth begins, cut back any old or untidy stems and lift and divide congested clumps every few years to rejuvenate the plant and maintain vigorous growth.
