Characterised by its slender and tufted nature, this sedge adds a touch of grace with clumps of narrow leaves soaring close to 1m in height. Native to the British Isles and commonly found in streams and ditches, Carex acuta showcases spikes adorned with brown flowers during the late spring and summer months. While its invasive tendency might be a consideration for smaller ponds, this sedge truly shines as a terrific addition to the edges of larger bodies of water.
How to care for Carex acuta:
Plant out in reliably moist or boggy soil, or pot up into a pond basket and place at the margins of a pond in shallow water no deeper than 15cm (6"). A low maintenance plant, remove dead leaves and spent flowers as necessary. Divide congested clumps in early spring every few years.
