Serissa japonica 'Pink Mystic'

tree of a thousand stars

Product Image
Compact growth, glossy evergreen leaves, and a long flowering season make this an excellent choice for year-round interest. From late spring through summer, masses of small, starry blooms in soft pink and pinkish-white shades appear in succession, standing out against the deep green foliage. The dome-shaped habit with dense branching gives the plant a tidy and ornamental look, perfect for containers, small gardens, or sheltered borders.

Serissa japonica ‘Pink Mystic’ is best grown in a sunny spot with well-drained soil to encourage prolific flowering. Its neat form and extended display of flowers make it a favourite for patio pots and bonsai, where its delicate appearance can be appreciated up close.

This broadleaf evergreen offers lasting structure and colour, while its pink blossoms attract attention throughout the warmer months. With minimal pruning, it maintains a compact shape, providing both ornamental value and easy care in n the garden.

How to care for Serissa japonica Pink Mystic:

Serissa thrives in a bright, sunny spot sheltered from cold winds and sudden temperature changes. Plant in well-drained, neutral to slightly acidic soil, or use a loam-based compost with grit for containers. It can be fussy and will drop leaves if moved too often or grown in unsuitable conditions, though usually recovers if conditions become more favourable.

Keep the soil evenly moist in summer, letting the surface dry slightly between waterings, but avoid soggy roots. Mist the foliage in hot weather to raise humidity and feed every 2-3 weeks with a balanced liquid fertiliser during the growing season.

Lightly prune after flowering to maintain its dome-like shape and pinch out soft tips for bushier growth. Avoid hard pruning, and remove only weak or dead shoots. In the UK, protect from frost by moving container plants into a greenhouse, conservatory, or other frost-free place over winter, or cover border plants in milder regions with several layers of horticultural fleece.
