This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun to partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: July to August
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

The feathery foliage of this low growing, suckering shrub, emerges each spring in a bright pinkish bronze flush, but quickly turns fresh lime - and then a rich, dark green. Forming an attractive leafy mound, it is topped from midsummer with large cone-shaped clusters of small white flowers. The interest continues well into autumn, when the foliage changes colour once again - this time taking on reddish tones before it is shed.

  • Garden care: Apply a gernerous layer of mulch around the base of the plant in spring or autumn. Once established, cut back around a quarter of the old stems to the base after flowering. Rooted suckers can be transplanted in autumn or winter.
