A versatile terracotta bowl with a pretty scalloped edge. Like our large ruffle pots these are thrown and then the top edge is pinched at regular intervals, creating a wavy ‘pie crust’ profile that will be unique to every bowl. A lovely choice for bedding, herbs or spring bulbs. A planted bowl also makes a perfect centrepiece on a table.
Hand thrown in Turkey from local clay, these are pre-drilled with a large drainage hole. Over time they will age to an attractive patina as the salts slowly leach to the surface. Each is fired to 1080°C to make it as frost resistant as possible but for extra protection we suggest raising it on pot feet and moving it to a sheltered spot in the colder months.
Please note: white specks in the terracotta are lime granules, which occur naturally in raw Turkish clay. Occasionally when pots are fired the clay around them can split out a little, but this won’t compromise the pot’s strength. Lime helps to bind the clay and ultimately makes for a stronger pot. As these are hand thrown, the measurements are approximate.
Why choose terracotta?
Terracotta pots are excellent for plants because their porous, natural clay "breathes", allowing air and moisture to pass through the walls. This keeps soil from staying too wet and improves airflow around the roots, reducing the risk of root rot. They’re also naturally insulating which helps to protect roots from sudden temperature changes.
