celeriac 'Prinz'

celeriac or Apium graveolens var. rapaceum 'Prinz'

Product Image
A big, robust celeriac that's very trouble-free to grow, with a rich, aromatic celery-like flavour and crisp white flesh perfect for eating raw sliced or grated into salads. Slow to bolt and disease-resistant, it produces large pale swollen stems above ground level which stand well through winter for you to harvest as you need them.

How to care for celeriac Prinz:

Once planted out, keep the soil consistently moist to prevent bolting and ensure even root development. Feed occasionally with a balanced fertiliser and watch for slug damage, especially when plants are young. From summer onwards, remove the lower leaves to help expose and encourage the swollen base (the edible part) to develop. Celeriac is typically ready to harvest from October onwards, once the roots have reached a good size.

Sowing instructions:

Celeriac requires a long growing season, so start by sowing seeds indoors in trays of fine seed compost in early spring. Keep them warm and moist to encourage germination. As seedlings grow, pot them on individually and continue to grow them on under cover. Gradually harden off young plants to outdoor conditions before planting out in their final position once the risk of frost has passed, spacing them around 40cm (16in) apart.
