Forming a compact, upright shrub, Coprosma ‘Glowing Embers’ carries small, rounded leaves with a high-gloss finish that reflects the light and shows off a lively mix of green, gold, burgundy and burnt orange tones, which intensify as the weather cools.

Ideal for patio containers, balconies or a sheltered sunny border, coprosma gives dependable evergreen structure all year. Grow it in well-drained soil in full sun or light shade for the best leaf colour, and in colder areas keep it in a pot so you can move it to frost protected areas, or under cover, over winter. Tough, low maintenance and tolerant of coastal conditions, it’s an easy way to add lasting impact.

How to care for Coprosma Glowing Embers ('Alcopow') (PBR):

Plant in a well-drained, sheltered, sunny spot protected from cold winds. Use a loam based potting compost if planting in pots, with plenty of drainage to avoid waterlogging.

In spring, lightly trim any branches that spoil the symmetry of the plant. Afterwards apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted leaf mould or composted pine needles around the base of the plant.

In colder regions, protect from hard frosts, or keep it in a pot and move it to a sheltered spot when the temperatures dip.
