Laserpitium siler

laserwort (syn. Siler montanum)

Product Image
Add height and structure to a sunny border with this handsome, drought-tolerant perennial. Laserpitium siler forms an upright clump of finely divided, blue-green foliage, with narrow leaflets that give the plant a soft, almost feathery appearance.

In early summer, tall, wiry stems carry broad, gently domed umbels of tiny white flowers, often tinged with pink, which attract pollinating insects. Native to mountainous parts of Europe, it thrives in full sun and free-draining soil, making it a natural choice for gravel gardens and dry borders.

Leave the seed heads in place after flowering to add interest through autumn and winter.

How to care for Laserpitium siler:

Plant in full sun, ideally in light, free-draining soil that won’t become waterlogged over winter. It’s well suited to gravel gardens and dry borders, where its deep roots help it cope with dry spells once established.

Water regularly during its first growing season while it gets settled, then only during prolonged dry weather. Cut back the stems in late winter or early spring, leaving the attractive seed heads in place over winter for added interest and wildlife.
