This plant is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: fast-growing
  • Flowering period: May
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Gorgeous dusky-pink flowers appear in mid spring, quickly followed by dark purple-deep green foliage. 'Prairie Fire' is a small spreading tree with arching branches and has discreet reddish-purple fruit in autumn.

  • Garden care: Plant 'Prairie Fire' as soon as conditions allow (avoiding frozen and waterlogged soil). Choose a sheltered spot to protect emerging blossom. Incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake and support firmly. If required, prune in winter to remove any dead, diseased or crossing branches.
  • Humans/Pets: Fruit are ornamental - not to be eaten
