Nepeta × faassenii Whispurr Pink ('Balpurrink') (PBR) (Whispurr Series)

catmint

Product Image
Soft pink flower spikes sway gently above fragrant silver-green foliage, bringing months of colour and movement to sunny planting schemes. Nepeta × faassenii Whispurr Pink has a naturally upright, airy habit, making it easy to weave between neighbouring perennials without overwhelming them.

Its delicate blush-pink blooms are held in abundance on elegant stems, with contrasting darker calyces extending the display even after the petals have fallen. A magnet for bees and butterflies, this easy-going catmint is perfect for cottage gardens, gravel gardens, mixed borders and containers.

Drought tolerant once established and thriving in well-drained soil, it is a dependable, low-maintenance perennial that looks particularly effective alongside roses, salvias and ornamental grasses. A light trim after the first flush of flowers will often encourage a fresh display later in the season.

Please note that any pots in the photographs are not supplied with the plants (which are sent out in simple nursery alternatives), but we have a wide and wonderful range on our website to choose from.

How to care for Nepeta × faassenii Whispurr Pink ('Balpurrink') (PBR) (Whispurr Series):

Nepeta thrives in sunny, well-drained locations with slightly alkaline soil and should be planted with plenty of well-rotted organic matter into the backfill and immediate area. To encourage a second flush of blooms, prune it by one-third after the first flowering and cut back heavily in late winter to maintain its shape.

Regular deadheading will promote continuous flowering, and once established, water deeply but infrequently, to assist in developing drought-tolerance. Apply a light mulch around the base annually and avoid over-fertilising to prevent floppy growth. Divide the plant every 3-4 years to maintain its vigour.

Good air circulation is important to prevent fungal (mildew) issues so space plants accordingly - we recommend a spacing of 30cm (12in) between 9cm plants, and 45cm (18in) between 2 litre plants.
