The rich green foliage of this decorative low-growing perennial is made up of 4 leaflets, each with a deep maroon blotch at its base. This forms a dense, ground-covering mound, which in summer, is topped with sprays of purplish-red blooms. A colourful addition to a rock garden or raised bed, it also offers a long season of interest when potted up on the patio. - Garden care: Avoid overwatering during the dormant period and in more exposed regions, move potted plants to a sheltered spot (at the base of a south-facing wall, a porch or an unheated greenhouse) in winter.
