Veronica gentianoides

speedwell

Product Image
Forming gorgeous spires of cup-shaped, clear blue flowers in late spring and early summer, this speedwell looks lovely when planted in drifts towards the front of a mixed or herbaceous border. One of the first speedwells to flower each year, Veronica gentianoides is useful for bridging the gap between spring bulbs and summer perennials.

How to care for Veronica gentianoides:

Plant in well-drained soil and a sunny or lightly shaded spot. It prefers moist but not waterlogged ground, so improve drainage if your soil is heavy. Water regularly after planting to help it establish, then only during long dry spells.

Trim back lightly after flowering to keep the plant neat and encourage fresh growth. Apply a general-purpose fertiliser or compost mulch in spring to boost vigour. It’s a low-growing, spreading perennial that forms a dense mat, perfect for rockeries, front borders, or under shrubs. Generally pest-free and hardy, it needs lower maintenance once established.
