This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moderately fertile, moist, well drained
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: September to November
  • Hardiness: hardy

Introduced from China by plantsman Dan Hinkley, this burnet has rich, burgundy coloured, bobble-like flowers held on elegant wiry stems from September to November. ‘Cangshan Cranberry’ is a tall, herbaceous perennial for the back of a border, which will bloom consistently throughout the autumn season. The spent 'drumstick' flower heads and stems can add interest in winter.

  • Garden care: Cut back the foliage when it dies back and is no longer attractive in autumn or winter. Once established, divide overly large clumps in spring.
