Niwaki Tobisho SR-1 secateurs
Drop forged in Yamagata from high carbon Yasugi steel, these Niwaki secateurs are beautifully balanced, smooth and razor sharp. The face of the cutting blade is slightly hollow ground to reduce friction, making them superb slicers. Material won’t readily stick to the blades and clog them up, so they produce a fantastic clean cut.
As they are bashed out of a single piece of steel from blade to handle, there aren’t any welds or weak spots. They combine the shape of the traditional A-Type with more modern production techniques, creating a light but strong pair of secateurs that are comfortable to use all day long.
Care for your pair
Look after your secateurs by only using them on plant matter - never wire, stone, plastic or other hard materials - and always cutting on the diagonal. Use the base of the blades rather than the tip for heavier cuts and never twist them or apply uneven pressure.
Clean and dry the blades after every use (a Crean Mate and water are ideal for removing rust, sap and leaf resin), apply a coat of camellia oil and store in a dry place. Sharpen every couple of weeks or as needed.
