Producing large, upright flower spikes in late spring or early summer, camassias look very striking when woven through the border, but will also work exceptionally well when allowed to naturalise in meadows or along the upper edges of a pond. Originating from North America, where they are found colonising damp, fertile soils, these bulbous perennials will thrive in a sunny position, but will also tolerate some lightly dappled shade. Plant them in generous numbers as they make good cut flowers for the vase.

In each collection you will receive the following:

5 × Camassia leichtlinii subsp. suksdorfii 'Alba': Tall spires of creamy-white, star-shaped flowers appear above strap-like leaves in late spring and early summer. Originally from damp meadowlands in North America, this bulbous perennial is perfect for naturalising in a wildflower meadow. It will happily grow in moist soil in sun or partial shade as long as the soil doesn't become waterlogged. Take advantage of its brief flowering season to brighten up a border before summer perennials take over. Or plant in a border that is backed by a tall hedge, where the  dark foliage will show the flowers off. Grows to 130cm tall.

  • 5 × Camassia leichtlinii subsp. suksdorfii: Loose spires of blue or lilac, star-shaped flowers appear on top of tall stems in late spring. Originally from damp meadowlands in North America, this bulbous perennial is perfect for naturalising in a wildflower meadow. It will happily grow in moist soil or partial shade as long as the soil doesn't become waterlogged. Take advantage of its brief flowering season to brighten up a border before summer perennials take over. Grows to 130cm tall.

  • 5 × Camassia cusickii: This is a handsome plant that can be threaded through the border, but it also looks wonderful when planted in generous drifts in a meadow-style setting (it originates from prairies in North America). The star-shaped flowers are azure blue, and open from the base of the upright spike in late spring and early summer, and if left in the ground will naturalise easily. Grows to 130cm tall.

  • Garden care: Keep well watered during dry spells and in cold regions, apply a generous layer of mulch in autumn.

  • Planting tips:
Plant the bulbs 8cm deep and 20cm apart in big groups in the autumn. Try to plant them where they will remain for several years as they resent being moved.
    • Humans/Pets: Ornamental bulbs - not to be eaten
