Malus 'Candymint'

crab apple Candymint

5 year guarantee Perfect for pollinators
bare root 125cm+ £39.99

This plant is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: May
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

'Candymint' has stunning carmine red buds that reveal white-tinted soft pink flowers in spring. In autumn, the leaves turn butter yellow and contrast beautifully with the long-lasting small purple fruit - a great food resource for wildlife - not so good for the kitchen as they're a bit small! This attractive, modest-sized crab apple tree has a spreading habit.

  • Garden care: Plant 'Candymint' as soon as conditions allow (avoiding frozen and waterlogged soil). Choose a sheltered spot to protect emerging blossom. Incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake and support firmly. If required, prune in winter to remove any dead, diseased or crossing branches.
  • Pollination information: This apple has a very long flowering period, so belongs to all the pollination groups and therefore is ideal for using as a pollinating partner to all other apples.
    • Humans/Pets: Fruit are ornamental - not to be eaten
